Does my book need editing, even if I used an AI program like Grammarly, Chat GPT, or Claude?

Yes! Our team of editors have worked with countless books that have been put through AI programs, and we always make hundreds of content and copy edits along the way. While these programs can be helpful, they cannot effectively replace a human’s eye.

How long does editing take?

The timeline for each round of editing depends on the project and its complexity. Once our team begins work on the book, however, we operate at an average pace of about 25,000–30,000 words a week. This may vary, so please don’t hesitate to reach out to us for a more specific timeline. Remember, if you purchase multiple rounds of editing, there will be variable time in between each for you as the author to implement suggestions and revise. Some people take a weekend, others take weeks or months.

What programs do you use to edit?

We do not use any programs (like Grammarly, ProWritingAid, ChatGPT, etc.) to edit. Editing is done solely by editors and their brains!

To physically edit the documents, we can use either Google Docs or Microsoft Word.

What if I don’t like an edit?

The team does their very best to suggest changes that will better your work, but if you do not like it, you are always welcome to simply reject the suggestion. This is your book, and you have the final say! We won’t be offended. That being said, if you would like the editor to explain why a suggestion or change was made, don’t hesitate to ask. We will always explain our reasoning, if requested.

What is your privacy policy?

We will not reproduce, give, or show any of the materials you send to us to anyone outside the team here at BookDuet. As the author, you hold 100% of the copyright over your work. It is safe in our hands.

How do I communicate with the editor?

Unless you purchase a package that includes coaching calls, there is no direct communication between the author and the editor outside of the document comments. However, you will have email access to our head of editing, should you have any questions on timeline, edits, or next steps, as well as 3 coaching calls for those in the Diamond Package.
